The Brockton Council on Aging alerts residents of two reported phone scams.
Residents are encouraged to hang up immediately if they receive these calls and not give out any personal information. Do not give your Medicare number or your social security number to anyone unless you have initiated the call.
- The caller claims to be from Social Security Administration and states that due to the damage from Hurricane Sandy all information was lost and to make sure social security payments continued they would have to verify information. This is a scam.
- Because this is Open Enrollment period for Medicare Beneficiaries and seniors are changing their prescription plans. The scammers claim to be from an insurance company and in order to send their new insurance card they need to verify their information. This is a scam.
If you suspect that you have been the victim of a scam, please contact the Brockton Police Department non-emergency line at (508) 941-0200.
