Barn Inspections
October 19, 2011
The state of Massachusetts mandates annual inspections for any barn yard-type animals housed in the City of Brockton.
These animals include: chickens, waterfowl, horses, ponies, gamebirds, cattle, sheep, goats, turkeys, etc. The inspections are required every year during the fall and early winter months.
The inspections take little time to do and include: a head count of the animals on your property and a quick look at where they are kept. When the inspection is complete, you will be given a copy of the document for your records. This is a confidential inspection and only shared with the Department of Agricultural Resources.
The inspections serve several purposes: coordinating emergency response in the case of an emergency or natural disaster; in the event of a disease outbreak involving the species of animal kept on your property. You will be notified on what it is, what to look for, and who to contact.
Please contact the City of Brockton Animal Inspector, Megan Hanrahan at (508) 580-7175 to schedule your inspection or to answer any questions.
