The Brockton Public Library will host a Family Literacy Day
Saturday, Feb. 11th in celebration of Black History Month. Stop by the Main
Library, 304 Main St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a day filled with history and
fun.
With thanks
to WODA (Wiping Out Drug Abuse, Inc.) the day will focus on African
American inventors. Free calendars highlighting black
inventors will be distributed while supplies last.
Indaba Theatre of
New England will perform monologues based on these historical inventors from 12
to 1 p.m. Throughout the day, Indaba Theatre will also present living statues
representing black inventors. Other activities include: making an African Wrap
Doll or paper figure with Doll E. Daze Project & Museum Inc.; historical
tours of the library will be conducted including a stop by the Liberty Tree;
and musical performances. Light refreshments will be served.
This event is
free and open to the public; all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend.
