The Health Department enforces the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the laws and ordinance of the City of Brockton to protect the health and well-being of its residents and the general public.
The Health Department: educates both property owners and tenants in order to obtain compliance of all applicable laws/ordinances to include hazards of lead paint in existing housing stock; enforces all applicable state and federal laws pertaining to food service establishments through systematic inspections of each food establishments; and educate establishment owners and managers and the general public regarding safe/sound food handling practices.
The Public Health Nurse is responsible for monitoring all active cases of Tuberculosis; investigating and education all reported communicable diseases such as Hepatitis and Meningitis; conducting diabetic screenings, TB testing and follow-ups, influenza immunizations, blood pressure and medication counseling; serving as a resource for schools regarding immunization, communicable disease, and serve as liaison with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health; alert physicians to all new information and changes in vaccine; supply all hospitals and physicians with vaccines on a monthly basis; and participate with other health agencies regarding policy setting and addressing problems within the health field.
