The Brockton Emergency Management Agency (BEMA) is responsible for coordinating with state and federal authorities to protect the public during disasters and emergencies. BEMA helps develop plans for effective response to all hazards, trains emergency personnel, provides information to families and residents, and assists in recovery from disaster.
Brockton's Local Emergency Planning Committee, one of the few certified by the state of Massachusetts, is staffed with approximately 40 experienced people, representing a cross-section of expertise, who have volunteered to coordinate emergency resources.
CodeRED is a telephone communication service that allows us to quickly notify citizens about emergency situations. All citizens and business are encouraged to register. Brockton Emergency Management Agency will use the CodeRED system to notify citizens about emergencies such as:
- Drinking water contamination
- Extreme weather conditions
- Evacuation notice and route
- Missing person
- Hazardous Materials Incident or gas leak
- Other emergency incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential
